Unsaddles

This shot.I used a lighting device called Zoomlight specially designed and created to be used in a mobile way and not connected to the camera allowing me to obtain positions and angles that maximized the creativity when using light. With the different adjustments to flash, teleobjective and connector I was able to modify the intensity, definition, size and shape of light. Finishing the work and at the moment of preparing the exposition many unimaginable meanings arise. The random chair used as object to experiment with zoom light turned out to be the metaphorical resource that refers to the dichotomy of Absence – presence. A chair that is always lonely and empty that shows what is missing, or destroyed as image of reality. Several of them in a scale as if it was a toy, like those crafts made of wood by Uncle Joseph. Almost a year after and by chance I find many series called Unsaddles was done in the modality of a direct work of artist that have developed the chair to express situations or tragedies, for example: Doris Salcedo which I quote bellow

.

Quotes: Doris Salcedo, Colombian artist of her work Ecos del Dolor (Echoes of pain), placements of chairs in the front of the Palace of Justice in Colombia between the 6th and 8th of November 2002.

“The chairs present themselves as an individual and collective memory. These objects shows use prints on the woods of what they are made of. So we cannot only talk about a chair as a simple object but also spaces of conflict, marked between the dialect of absence and presence.

The chair leads us to think in space belonging to a human being. It is present when the chair is there but there is a strange feeling of absence. Those bodies need that thing that is missing or torn, the emptiness is shown as a fundamental part in the complexity of space that has been built and now belongs to it.”
