The body and its landscapes

“Light grows inside the body “.

The work of Chiche Levy is a deep exploration about contemporaneous self-portrait as a way of building subjectivity.

From Rembrandt’s self-portraits to the pictorial photos of Nan Goldin, going through the natural rituals of Ana Mendieta, and the masculine body of the German woods of Dieter Appelt, the pieces of this author connects us with the metamorphosis of the body and its psyche.

Its process begins in the interior of thought, its blue indoor states.

Sleep, the magic of the night, darkness as a Jungian duality, landscapes illuminated by fire and moon are captured in oneiric images.

The duality, the alter ego is one of the charms of self-portraits, built and re built one self as another new born and reborn in each take, different and essential to its self.

From the mysterious shadow in search of day light, its splendor and powerful physical expansion.

Jump, run and red as sun rays, come as one along with nature until falling submissive in the grass and the light is now part of our body.

Levy’s self-portraits have that atmosphere of strength, the body, and its many essentials and his kaleidoscopic landscapes.
